I'm a fugitive, baby!

So I was all set to come home tonight, and post a nice entry about the past couple days. About how much fun I've had on my last nights in Hali... about how good my impromptu date was last night (walk in the park/sharing a sundae/having a beer, watching Smackdown!), about how much fun we had at the Oasis (Paula and Jesse totally rocked! I was < > this close to going up and doing a duet with Blair)... and about what an awesome time we had at Pacifico/Palace tonight (we had a good crowd... good times for sure).

And then... BOOM! The night has to go and end with me and Doug getting arressted.

( * ) So yeah, we're walking down Barrington St... Doug sees a guy he knows. Guy is all like "man, this is crazy, this dude just got beat up or something... I was trying to help and he shoved me off... and I'm like dude, I'm trying to help!" And we're like "woah, that's crazy... aight, casino time, see ya". ( * )

And we all depart and go on our merry ways... and then, a cop car pulls up, the cops come out. And I'm thinking "Woah... are they gonna try to bust us with public intoxication? That's pretty hardcore for a Friday night... but I'm coherent enough I think it'll be cool."

"We're gonna have to ask you to get in the car... you're under arrest for assault." They slap the cuffs on us, and shove us in the back of the cop car. We spend about a half hour in there. At this point, we're just kinda laughing about the whole thing because you know, it's a story to tell, it's annoying, but whatever. When this cop comes in, and starts trying to play all hardball with us "we can do this the easy way, or the hard way... you can confess to it now, or we can convict you when we get all the eyewitness reports" blah blah blah... they try to bribe me "We're not sure about you... but your buddy was clearly ID'ed... you may be able to get away with it if can convince him to confess." But of course, I tell them, he was with me all night "Fine, have it your way"

They take us to the police station, and detain us, getting our statements... I tell them what happened. (See the part within the ( * ) for a pretty detailed account of what I told them). They kept us in holding for like 2 hours, just getting out now... I totally took a nap in the holding cell. They apologized profusely saying it was routine blah blah blah, but it still sucks and ruined our night. basically we were guilty of being in the wrong place at the wrong time... having walked down the st just after an assault took place. We were let go, and ran into Doug's bud outside, and talked about what a messed up situation it was. My favourite part about the whole thing though, is the fact that I was sober enough to be co-operative, but had enough in me to be just a bit lippy.

Me: So, I dunno how long this is gonna go on or anything... but like, could you take a picture of me, for evidence?

Cop: Huh?

Me: Look at me. Look at my knuckles. Not a mark on them. Look at my clothes. No blood, or anything. Look at my hair... it's all gelled up... it's perfect! My hair is perfect! How could I assault a guy and still have my hair so nicely arranged!

Cop: Sir, can I examine your shoes for a second?

Me: Sure thing... they're pretty sweet, eh? (Thanks Ang!)

the basic crux of my defense was the fact that my hair looked so nice.
